Taking It Down and Taking It Away
Demolition and hauling is the work of removing structures you no longer want and leaving the ground ready for something else. In Allentown that is usually a detached garage that has outlived its roof, an in-ground pool a family no longer uses, a collapsing shed, an old porch or deck, or a cracked concrete driveway or patio. We take the structure down, separate what can be recycled, haul the rest, fill any hole with compacted material, and grade the site.
Garages and sheds
Many older Allentown properties have detached garages along alleys. Before one comes down, the electrical service has to be disconnected, and the alley side may be tight for equipment. HomeAdvisor lists garage demolition at $4 to $10 per square foot and shed removal at roughly $250 to $3,000. The slab usually comes out too unless you want to reuse it.
Pools
An unwanted in-ground pool can be partially removed, with the top broken out and the shell filled, or fully removed with everything hauled out. Full removal costs more but leaves buildable ground. Either way, fill has to be placed and compacted in lifts so the area does not sink later; on limestone ground, we also make sure the old pool does not become a collection point for water.
Concrete and asphalt
Driveways, patios, walks and slabs are broken up and hauled, often to a recycler. HomeAdvisor lists driveway demolition at $1 to $2 per square foot. If a new driveway or patio follows, we can grade and compact the subbase in the same visit.
Permits and utilities
Most municipalities require a demolition permit for buildings, and utilities have to be shut off and capped first. HomeAdvisor puts demolition permits at roughly $100 to $500. Older structures may contain asbestos materials that need testing and licensed removal before demolition. We tell you what the permit office requires for your address.
Hauling
Hauling is often the largest part of the cost. HomeAdvisor lists debris cleanup and disposal at $300 to $1,800. We separate clean concrete, metal and wood where it lowers disposal fees, and our quote shows the expected number of loads.
After the teardown
Once a structure is gone, the ground needs to be ready for what comes next. We fill any hole with suitable material, compact it in lifts, and either grade it for seed or leave a firm base for a new garage, patio or addition.

Demolition & Hauling Questions
Do I need a permit to tear down a garage?
Usually, yes. Most Lehigh Valley municipalities require a demolition permit for buildings, and utilities must be disconnected first. We check the rules for your address.
What is the difference between pool fill-in and full removal?
A fill-in breaks out the top of the pool and fills the shell, which costs less but may need to be disclosed when you sell. Full removal hauls out the shell and leaves ground suitable for building.
Can you recycle the concrete?
Clean concrete usually goes to a recycler rather than a landfill, which often lowers disposal cost.
What about asbestos?
Older siding, roofing and pipe insulation can contain asbestos. It has to be tested and, if present, removed by a licensed abatement contractor before demolition.
